Alta Vivian (VanLandingham) Power passed away peacefully at her home in the Pleasant Hill Community, Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the age of 90.
Alta was born on February 22, 1934, in Valiant, Oklahoma to George and Edith VanLandingham. She spent most of her childhood years in the Valliant and Haworth communities where she resided with her five siblings, Mother Edith and Stepfather Ernest Grose, who was Minister at the Haworth Methodist Church. She later graduated from high school at Battiest, Oklahoma in May, 1951.
On August 22, 1951, she married the love of her life, Milburn Power. They were blessed to spend 53 years together before his passing in 2005.
Alta began her 26 year career with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services in Idabel, Oklahoma in April, 1962; retiring as an Administrative Assistant in May, 1988. She enjoyed her work and loved her “girls” as she often referred to them. Many remained life long friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Aubrey VanLandingham and Edith Grose as well as her stepfather, Ernest Grose and her husband, Milburn Power. Her sisters: Nancy McDaniel and Audrey Lee VanLandingham, both of Ada, Oklahoma.
She is survived by two sons: Andy M. Power, Sr. and wife Brenda, Texarkana, Texas and Mickey L. Power and wife Lavada, Haworth, Oklahoma. One sister, Mary Ann Patton and husband Frank, Stonewall, Oklahoma. Two brothers: Floyd VanLandingham, Woodward, Oklahoma and George O. Vanlandingham, Blanchard, Oklahoma. Brother-in-law: Jerry McDaniel, Ada, Oklahoma. Grandchildren: Andy M. Power, Jr, Alyssa M. Williams, and Addy M. John, Texarkana, Texas. Alayna M Ambort and husband Eric, Benton, Arkansas, Mickey Lane Power II, and wife Makaelea, Haworth, Oklahoma.
Eight Great-Grandchildren: Andi Jo John, Kayla, Cieran, and Junior Power, Texarkana, Archer and Eva Marie Ambort, Benton, Arkansas, Mattie and Loklyn Power, Haworth, Oklahoma. Along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 11, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 at White Family Funeral Home, Idabel.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 12, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. and will be at Redland Community Church, officiated by Ricky Pierce and Johnny Draper. Interment will follow at Harris Cemetery.
