Alvie Lee Cowell, age 97, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at his home in Idabel, OK. Alvie was born March 5, 1928 in Garvin, OK, the son of Lonnie and Nettie Cowell.
Alvie retired from Tinker Air Force Base after 26 years. After moving back to McCurtain County, he farmed and ranched. He was very passionate about farming and taking care of his cattle. Alvie loved fishing with his family, gardening and attending the Cowell family reunions.
Alvie loved his family dearly and they were his greatest joy. Most of all he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was looking forward to his home in heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Lomas Williamson, Juanita Edwards, Dean Cowell, Bessie Cowell and Kenneth Cowell; sisters-in-law, Nona Cowell and Beverly Cowell; brothers-in-law, Edgar Williamson and Alvin Edwards; sons-in-law, Charles Bolz and Kirby Byassee; and a grandson-in-law, Chris Snowden.
Alvie is survived by his wife, Marie Cowell; children, Phyllis Bolz and Sharon Byassee; grandchildren, April and J.J. Monk, Taylor Willingham, Michelle (Bolz) Snowden, Kim and Jermaine Russell; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Becky Orr, Jaylyn Monk, Jaiden and Kymari Russell; great-great-grandchildren, C.J. and Liam; siblings, Curtis and Pat Cowell; sisters-in-law, Marie Sharp and Georgia Young; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, August 25, 2025 at the Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at The Meeting Place, in Millerton. Interment will follow at Wheelock Cemetery.
