Barbara Alford Obituary

Barbara Ann (Parker) Alford was born July 14, 1946 and passed away at home in Marshall Hill surrounded by her loving family on November 3, 2023 at the age of 77.

Barbara attended school at Marshall Hill in a one room school house where she got to skip a grade and started college at the age of 16 in Wilburton, OK at EOSC where she met the love of her life, Edward. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree from SEOSU in Durant.

Barbara taught elementary school at Haworth, OK for about 30 years.

Barbara loved the country life, especially horses and cows. She even tried her hand at bull riding one time. She enjoyed family gatherings and hosted the family at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She loved having her family around and always had an overflowing table. She was a good cook even though she never tasted the deer meat or squirrel!

Barbara went hunting to spend time with Edward and still to this day has the biggest deer mount in the house. She carried the kids around to many softball fields to cheer on Edward at his games. She played catch with Twaila many hours in the front yard and taught her how to ride a horse. She pulled Billy Jack behind her in the little red wagon while she was push mowing the yard. She instilled in her family high morals and the value of hard work.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Alexander “Bill” Parker and Rosie Lee (Thrasher) Parker, and younger brother, Keith Leon Parker.

Barbara leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of 56 years, James Edward Alford of the home, daughter Twaila and husband Jason Wiley of South Haven, KS, son Billy Jack and wife Daylene Alford of Idabel, brother James and wife Marie “Chickie” Parker of Smithville, seven grandchildren: Ciara Jewell Wiley, James Wyatt Alford, Cynae Alexandra Wiley, Kasey Ann Alford, Slade Harold Wiley, Cody Joe Alford, and Colton Wayne Alford, brothers-in-law, Ricky Alford and Debbie of the Redland Community, Kenneth Alford of Moon, OK and Larry Alford and Sharon of Broken Bow, OK; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at the White Family Chapel with Michael Cox officiating. Interment will follow at the Pollard Cemetery.
