Billie Trotter Obituary

Billie Pauline Blankenship - Trotter was born the ninth of ten children on October 22, 1933 in Orangeburg, South Carolina to Edward Finley Blankenship and Letha Mae Patterson - Blankenship.  Both families are longtime Carolinians with roots stretching back to colonial times in the 1700s. Billie was also known as Polly by her husband, Mom by her children, Gran or great-Granny by loving grandchildren, and Miss Billie by a host of friends.

Billie met handsome sailor boy, Archie Clay Trotter in late 1949, early 1950. Archie, aka Art or John, was blessed when beautiful 16 year old Billie accepted his proposal. Marrying on May, 1, 1950 they moved to southeast Oklahoma to make their home. 15 months later the first of two children was born, son John Martin, followed six years later by daughter Cynthia Gail.

Billie is proceeded in death by her husband of 24 years, her parents, and siblings Edward, Juanita, Charles and Ann (twins), Faye, Erin, Bettie, Jacquline, and George.  She is survived by two children, one granddaughter Julie DeAnn Marcum and one grandson John A. Clay Trotter, two great-grandsons Stephen and Ethan, three great-granddaughters Emily and Alexa and Madeleine, and one great-great granddaughter Sophie.

Most residents of Idabel had occasion to meet Miss Billie during her 34+ years serving the community in the Idabel Public Works Authority; the Water Department. Many friendships were made during her tenure. Miss Billie firmly believed and lived out a standard of personal responsibility which called each of us to be responsible for our own actions. A standard, which on occasion, resulted in some of us missing her desire for all of us to help each other become better people, better citizens, and better Christians in our world.
