Bobby Carter Obituary

Bobby Weldon Carter, age 81, resident of Idabel, OK entered his heavenly home on February 22, 2024.

Bobby was born in Redland, OK on July 20, 1942, to Weldon and Naomi (Citty) Carter. On April 30, 1965  Bobby and Norma Harris were united in Holy matrimony in Clarksville, Texas. He was a member of the Redland Community Church in Redland, OK and a resident of the area his entire life.

Bobby’s commitment to service was evident early in his life when he volunteered to the US Air Force and served from 1961-1964. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for eighteen months. This period of service was a testament to Bobby's dedication to his country and his strong sense of duty.

Bobby was a master electrician. His work as an electrician was more than a job—it was a passion that saw him owning his own business when he wasn't dedicating his time to Zachry Construction and other companies. Bobby's expertise and dedication illuminated many homes across McCurtain County, and his skilled hands contributed to the infrastructure of paper mills, power plants, and LNG plants across the United States. His commitment to quality and safety in his work left a lasting impact on the industry and provided a beacon of excellence for those who worked alongside him. However, it was his innate ability to recognize potential and nurture growth in others that set him apart.

Bobby's love for his craft was paralleled by his love for life's adventures. Family cookouts were events filled with joy, laughter, and the savory delight of his barbecue. Road trips were not just about the destination but the journey itself, exploring new places and creating unforgettable memories with Norma and their children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two granddaughters, Dawn Batchelor and Amanda Duncan.

Bobby's love and dedication to his family was unwavering. He is survived by his wife, Norma J Carter; his five daughters Dana Jo Hobbs and her husband, Billy Jack, of Idabel, OK, Pam Sweat and her husband, Rodney Sweat, of China, TX, Gina Swope and her husband, Michael, of Simms, Texas, Kristi Cox and her husband, Ted, of Idabel, OK, Lori Whitten and her husband Kyle, of Broken Bow, OK; eighteen grandchildren, Billy Joe Hobbs, Wendi Driver, Brandice Wood, Zack Johnson, Jacee Ryan, Shay Sweat, Shanna Carroll, Tara Phillips, Chance Phillips, Alina Robinson, Austin Swope, Ryan Cox, Collin Cox, Colton Cox, Jacklyn Morgan, Kaylee Donaldson, Braiden Duncan, Kayla Whitten, thirty one great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, one sister, Linda McCoy of Idabel, Ok, one brother, Floyd Carter and his wife, Rita Carter of Idabel, Ok, a sister in law, Janette Thiele of Houston, TX, a brother in law, Gerald Harris, and his wife, Bonnie of Kelso, WA, a lifelong friend C.B. Bozarth; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

As we celebrate Bobby Weldon Carter's life, we remember a man of many talents and passions—a devoted family man, a respected electrician, and an adventurous soul. His legacy is not just in the structures he built or the company he contributed to but in the hearts of those he loved and the lives he touched. Bobby's story is one of love, dedication, and an enduring spirit of discovery that will continue to light the way for all who knew him.
