Curtis Watson Obituary

Curtis Ray Watson beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend passed away at the age of 84 on Saturday, January 25th in Idabel, Oklahoma. Mr. Watson was born in Golden, Oklahoma in 1940 and was a long-time resident of Oklahoma City before retiring to live in Valliant. A veteran of the Navy, Mr. Watson graduated from the University of Oklahoma earning a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature, and a Master’s degree in both English Literature and Library Science. Before beginning a long career at Southwestern Bell Telephone, Mr. Watson was a teacher, a profession he returned to after he retired and moved back to McCurtain County.

Mr. Watson was an animal lover and had many well-loved pets over the years including many dogs, cats, birds and horses. He loved to garden and was passionate about antiques. He served as a union steward while at Southwest Bell and spent time volunteering in his community. He opened his home and provided a place to live for so many people over the years, and could always be counted on to help when needed. He was a friend indeed.

Mr. Watson was preceded in death by his parents Ruth Irene Stevens (nee Milligan) and Frank Watson, and by his brothers Don Rollins and James Watson and his sister Margie Murdock all of Golden, OK. He is survived by brothers Mike Watson of Tuttle, OK and Tony Watson of Oklahoma City, OK, and by sisters Phyllis Williams of Golden, OK, Katie Bean of Washburn, MO, and Tammy Williams of Valliant, OK. He will be mourned by many nieces and nephews including Valerie Reid and Robert Williams of Golden, OK, Lisa Harris and Linda Taylor of Washburn, MO, Michael Watson, Angie Lopez and Tina Watson of Oklahoma City, OK, Sherry Thomas of Tuttle, OK, Shannon Williams, Mark Murdock, and Mary Murdock-Powell of Lee-on-the-Solent, England.
