Dave Brown

Dave Brown, age 80 passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at his home in Idabel, OK. He was born September 13, 1943 in Frederick, OK to parents, Foster G. Brown and Eral Clella Hardy. The youngest of five children, Page, Paul, Eula, Eben and Leon, a tank driver killed at the invasion of Normandy.

Dave was a graduate of Claremore High School where he was Senior Class President, Captain of the football team & lettered 3 years in football and baseball.  He made Oklahoma All-State and received a football scholarship to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. He graduated from Southeastern State College Durant where he lettered 3 years in football and received a BS and an MS in Education.

A Christian member of the Baptist faith, a deacon, a Gideon and Fellowship of Christian Athletes Coach of the Year. A teacher-coach all of his life. He was a State Champion in 1971 at Altus Oklahoma and he won 5 all star games as a coach including Oklahoma All-State, the Texas/Oklahoma Oil Bowl, 3 Native American All-Star games with son Doug.

Dave would always say he was thankful for every single moment, memorable times, good wins, awards, times spent with family, friends, fans, teammates, coaches and the not so good ones, lessons learned, heartbreaks were to him truly unforgettable, he couldn’t help but feel thankful for every moment.

For recreation he loved to study the Bible and his devotionals every morning and watching sports on TV. He loved to watch the Texas Rangers, the Kansas City Chiefs, all OU and OSU sports on TV. He was an amazing man to everyone that met him with a huge heart and he impacted many young lives over the years.

Preceded in death by his family he leaves to cherish his wife of 60 years, Marsha McMullan of Idabel. Son Jon Ed and wife Cindy, their children; Sage & John Garrett, Blake Brown & Nick Buttram, Jordan & Shane Cink and Tanner Brown & Justice Knight. Son Doug and wife Debbie, their children Joshua, Madison and Brenan. Niece & nephew Sue, Bill and wife Bertha, Dixie Shope, Sandra and Roseanne, Pam, Tom and Len. Great grandchildren Cade, Josie and Pepper!

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Idabel, OK. Interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 m to 8: 00 pm on Friday, September 13, 2024 at the funeral home.
