Deanna Maye was born August 21, 1942, to Clint and Inez Gay, in Reck, OK. Deanna passed away Wednesday, November 15th at her home in Pollard. Deanna married Wayne Maye on June 5, 1959. They were married for 63 years. To their union three sons were born—Terry, Greg, and Bryan.
Deanna was an avid reader, retired elementary school teacher, quilter, and loved to cook for her family and friends. Beyond her teaching career, she owned the Book Exchange in Idabel for 25 years and The Village Bookstore for 6 years.
Deanna, at age 44, when her three boys were out of college, decided she wanted to go get a college education. Deanna graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in December 1990 and went on to receive her Master’s Degree in counseling. She began her teaching career at Forest Grove, and then moved to Primary South in Idabel and taught 2nd grade. She received the honor of teacher of the year and retired from teaching in 2007. Deanna was a member of Pollard Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Ronnie Gay and one grandchild Kara Maye.
She is survived by her husband Wayne of Pollard, her son’s Terry and wife Michele of Pollard, Greg of Idabel, and Bryan of Hatfield, AR. Grandchildren Tara, Lauren, Courtney, Megan, Chism, Blaine, and Bridger. Her great grandchildren Trip, Maybree, Rowan, Banner, Cannon, Lynnon, Bellamy, and Kate.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 18th at 2:00 pm at Pollard Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. The Maye family expresses gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this time. May her memory bring comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, November 17, 2023 at the funeral home.
