GF Parsons Obituary

GF Parsons Jr., age 94 passed away on Friday, April 10, 2020 at Idabel, OK. He was born on November 29, 1925 in Idabel, OK. His family moved to Battiest, OK shortly afterwards where he lived for 10 years. The family moved back to Idabel when GF was in the 5th grade. GF was a 1943 graduate of Idabel Gray High School.

GF soon started classes at Oklahoma A&M but following his first semester he was drafted in to the US Army. GF proudly served his country for two years with one being in active combat in Europe during WWII. Upon discharge in May of 1946 he resumed classes at Oklahoma A&M and in January of 1949 received his BS in Dairy Production.

GF began his career teaching Veterans Agriculture in McCurtain County and soon began working for the Soil Conservation Service. In 1956 he took a position as Associate County Extension Agent. In 1959 he changed over to the position of Associate County Agent for the Indian Program and retired in September of 1980. GF relished his years working with people through the Extension Service.

He spent the remainder of his years raising cattle and pecans. His passion was tending to the farm south of town where he was blessed to have his only son and daughter-in-law there on the farm and to watch his two grandsons grow up working alongside their PaPa.

GF enjoyed meeting with people and sharing ideas. He was full of stories from his 94 years of living. Most of all he was a man who thought hard work and integrity were important and he demonstrated those virtues to the end. GF was a longtime member of the Idabel First United Methodist Church and faithfully served the Lord to the end of his race.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Willa Mae Parsons; son, Gerald Parsons; grandson, Shawn Parsons; his parents, GF Parsons Sr. and Jessie Parsons; brothers, Bernie Parsons and Rusty Parsons; a sister, Robbie DeVries; and a step-son, Dane Williamson.

GF is survived by his wife, Wanda Parsons of Jefferson, TX; daughter-in-law, Beverly Parsons of Idabel, OK; step-daughter, Georjanna Lawrence and Larry McIntosh; grandson, Don Allen Parsons and wife, Susie of Idabel, OK, Lee Lawrence and wife, Rachael of Jefferson, TX and Ty Williamson; a granddaughter, Charlie Mauldin and husband, Daniel of Jefferson, TX; great-grandchildren, Kylie and Brian Yount, Shawn Madison and Kevin Sauerwein and Rylee Parsons,  Presley Mauldin, Laine Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence, Payton Lawrence and Hadley Lawrence; great-great-grandchild, Oakley Yount; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and  friends.
