Gary “Bruce” Shirey, age 78, passed away on October 5, 2024 at his home in Holly Creek, OK. He was born in Honey Grove Community, OK on October 5, 1946, to Elige and Isabel Shirey. He was a 1965 graduate of Idabel High School and married Juannie McKee in Hugo, OK on August 27, 1969.
A proud veteran, Bruce served in the US Army as a tunnel rat during the Vietnam War, where he was honored with a Bronze Star for his bravery and service.
A lifetime resident of McCurtain County, Bruce was known for his deep connection to the great outdoors. His passions included hunting, fishing and camping, often sharing stories and skills with his children and grandchildren. Bruce was also a skilled carpenter and builder by trade where he used these skills to provide for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gerald Shirey; sister, Wyota King; grandsons, Coty Tidmore and Ryker Shirey.
Bruce leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Juannie Shirey of the home; sons, Gary Lynn Shirey & Sonya of Redland, OK, Bruce Shirey of Holly Creek, OK; daughter, LeAnn Taylor and Mike of Honey Grove Community, OK; grandchildren, Judson Shirey, Cutler Shirey and Erica, Daylon Taylor and Ryver Shirey; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Holly Creek Cemetery in Holly Creek, OK with Michael Cox officiating.
