Lou Jennings, age 94 passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at Holdenville, OK. She was born on December 21, 1929 in Pollard Community, OK the daughter of Elmer and Myrtle Hollingsworth. She was the salutatorian of the 1947 Haworth High School graduating class.
Lou grew up in the Pollard community and was salutatorian of the 1947 Haworth graduating class. She married Cecil Jennings in 1947 and they moved to Stillwater where he attended Oklahoma A&M and she worked by typing papers for students. Their first son, Lynn, was born in Norman, OK on their anniversary. After college they moved to Texas where Gary, Brenda, and Karen were born in Dumas, TX. They moved back to Idabel in 1964.
In Idabel, while her husband Cecil worked as a carpenter, she initially cleaned rooms while attending night school, eventually becoming a skilled legal secretary. During her career she worked diligently for Don Stevenson, then transitioned to Vocational Rehabilitation working with Darrell Plumber and Carl Dollarhide.
Lou was passionate about quilting, a hobby through which she touched many lives. She hand-stitched and gave away 150 quilts before she could physically no longer do it.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Myrtle Hollingsworth; her husband, Cecil Jennings; son-in-law; Dennis DeVore; grandson, Dustin DeVore; great-grandson, Griffin Jennings; grandson-in-law, Joseph Greer and all six siblings.
Lou leaves to cherish her memory; her children, Cecil Lynn Jennings and Linda of Pointe, TX, Gary Jennings and Jo Ellen of Holdenville, OK, Brenda Cox and George of Zwolle, LA, Karen Lankton and Freddie of New Bern, NC; grandchildren, Kevin Jennings, Samuel Jennings, Douglas Jennings and Cynthia, Angela Ervin, Melodi Greer Palmer and Rick, Kyle Lankton, Leslie Salsbury ; great-grandchildren, Paige Brown, Cade Jennings, Kenlee Jennings, , Garrick Stalnaker, Levi Friend, Wyatt Friend, River Jennings, Aiden Jennings, Codi Bailey and John, DustiJo Verret and Justin, Hayli Esters and Chris; great-great-grandchildren, Kaiden and Ava Marie Brown, Rae Lynn and Jillian Stalnaker, Autumn Garris, Jackson Hughes, Michael Friend, Landry, Baylor, Stella, Bailey, Emma, Madi, Hazel, Evelyn, Lucy, Verret, Oakleigh, Lynleigh, Chris, “CJ” Esters other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at White Family Funeral Chapel with Bro. Gary Jennings officiating. Interment will follow at the Pollard Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at the White Family Funeral Chapel.
