Gladys (Hickman) Huckby

Gladys Wynona Hickman Huckby, age 100 years, 8 months and 11 days, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Elmbrook of Hugo Nursing Home at Hugo, OK. She was born on May 23, 1925 at home in Golden, Ok on Honey Grove School Road, the daughter of Joseph and Elsie (Smalling) Hickman. She was the oldest of seven children.

Gladys was Choctaw and went to school at Chilocco Indian School in Newkirk, OK. She played basketball and was an All-Star basketball player. She went on to beauty school and became a licensed beautician for over 60 years with her shop in Midwest City, OK where she lived most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elsie Hickman; sister, Betty Jo Humble; brother, James (Bo) Hickman.

Gladys is survived by her sisters, Imogene Hudson of Fort Myers, FL, Joyce Shaver of Irving, TX, Katy Williams and husband, John Henry of Lockesburg, AR; brother, Joseph Jr. Hickman of Hugo, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

We can remember her by waring bright red lipstick and 3” stiletto heels.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the funeral home. 

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at the Watson Memorial Cemetery, Oak Hill, OK with Pastor John Henry Williams officiating.
