Glynn Stevens Obituary

Glynn Stevens, 94, died peacefully on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at his home in Tom, OK, the same little town of his birth. Glynn was born on October 4, 1931, to Justine and Hester (Pierce) Stevens. He was a 1949 graduate of Haworth High School where he played basketball. After high school, Glynn attended Okmulgee Junior College and then East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce, TX where he continued playing basketball and was a member of the 1955 National Championship Team. After college, Glynn went to the Army for a couple of years, and then, worked at General Motors in Dallas for a year.  While in Dallas, Glynn reconnected with a college acquaintance, Patsy Fulfer. They married on June 16, 1959.

Glynn and Patsy both became public school teachers in the Dallas area. Glynn also began to coach basketball in 1958. His last coaching position was at South Oak Cliff High School where he was privileged to experience many winning seasons but decided to leave coaching while he still loved the game and was enjoying success.

Glynn and Patsy had two daughters, Stephanie, born in 1961, and Linnea in 1963. They were raising the girls in Garland, TX when Glynn, desiring to move his family from the big city, was given the opportunity to completely change careers and become partners with a relative, Bud Wright, in the cross tie and timber business. He relocated Patsy and the girls to Tom, OK, his hometown. This business was very good to his family for over 40 years.  He kept working until retirement in 2018 at the age of 86.

Glynn, Patsy, and the girls fell in love with their country life in McCurtain County. Glynn considered it his duty to contribute to all the community improvement projects. He served on the volunteer fire department and the rural water board. He lent a hand in the building of the Senior Citizen Center in Tom and the activities building of the Tom Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon until his death.

Glynn is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ruth Marie Stevens. He is survived by his wife, Patsy, of 66 years, his daughter, Stephanie and husband, Robert Bright of Texarkana, TX, Linnea and husband, Mark Jennings of Redland, OK, grandsons, Rhett Bright, his wife Sumer, and great granddaughter Charlie Beth of Texarkana, TX, Cross Bright, his wife Carington, and great grandson, Porter, of Jonesboro, AR, granddaughters, Jaden and husband, Cole Hardan, of Merritt Island, FL, Raylee and husband, Kaden Phillips, and great granddaughter, Chayse, of Idabel, OK.

Glynn was a loving husband, a dedicated and devoted dad, a very proud grandfather, an adoring great grandfather, and a passionate follower of Jesus. He knew where he was going and he would hope you do, too!

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the Tom Baptist Church in Tom, OK. A noon meal and visitation in the activities building of the church will precede the service and all guests are invited to attend. Interment will follow at Tom cemetery.
