Gwin Dale McGovern

Gwin McGovern, age 83, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at Richardson, TX. He was born on February 28, 1943 in the Shults Community, OK. Gwin was a 1961 graduate of Haworth high School. He married his wife Carolyn on January 8, 1971 in Mexia, TX and she preceded him in death in 2014.

Gwin found joy in the great outdoors and could often be found hunting and fishing. He was an avid OU sports fan. Above all, Gwin cherished his family. His love for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was boundless.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Wilma McGovern; his wife of 43 years and love of his life Caroly Griffin McGovern; brother, Clovis McGovern and his wife, Marilyn; and a sister, Bobbie Gamble.

Gwin is survived by his sons, Jimmie Sands of Panama, OK and Clarke and Kathie Iglehart of Idabel, OK; daughters and son-in-law, Darlous Burney of Panama, OK and Bianca and Ryan Battiest of Rowlett, TX; grandchildren, Dayla Steelman, Kayla McGovern, Trae Iglehart and Meghan, Sharla Steelman, Nacona Steelman and Kailyn, Amber Battiest and Bryan and Peyton Iglehart; 12 great-grandchildren; lifelong friend, Wayne Pond; several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at the White Family Chapel with Mike McGovern officiating. Interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at the funeral home.
