Henry Satterfield was born on January 29, 1932 to Wavey Satterfield and Jewel Weems. He was raised with his brother Zelmer from a young age solely by his father. At the age of 17 he joined the US Air Force which at that time was known as the Army Air Corp.
He met the love of his life, Johnnie Maddux, at a boxing match in Idabel, OK. They eloped to DeQueen, AR and married on April 3, 1952. Lying about their ages, he then was sent to Japan where he was on some missions to Korea during that time.
While serving in the USAF he was trained as an electronics specialist and worked on the flight line servicing aircraft. While stationed in Big Spring, TX, he went to college at night and received his associate degree in electrical/electronics. He then taught electronics in the USAF.
He was stationed in Japan, San Antonio, TX, Taiwan, Big Spring, TX, and Hahn AFB in Germany. They loved the travels and he had planned on retiring in Australia but mom wanted to be near her parents and hence they moved back to Idabel, OK. They moved back to the Forest Grove area on land they bought in the 50’s and remodeled an old house that was on the property until they could build their new one payment free in 1981.
He never really retired and went to work on return to Oklahoma at the Weyerhaeuser Craig Plant as an electrician until it closed. Next, he worked as an electrician at Western Farmers until he retired. They also raised cattle until they were in their 70’s. They helped raise Margaret’s boys when she returned to Idabel and worked.
Henry was a Deacon at Forest Hill Baptist Church and a member of the Idabel Masonic Lodge and the McAlester Masonic Lodge.
The service helped them form life long friends including Jerry and Jake Freeland from Midland, TX and the Hoffman Family from Kirchburg Germany.
Henry was preceded in death by his forever Valentine Johnnie Satterfield, parents Wavey Satterfield, son Henry Satterfield, Jr. and son-in-love Darrel Bills.
Henry is survived by his daughter Margaret Lappin of Idabel, OK; daughter-in-law Peggy Satterfield; grandchildren, Brandon and Laci Janae Bills, Casey and Ashley Bills, Trae and Michelle Satterfield; great-granddaughters, Reagan Bills, Lani Lappin, Josie Bills, Kai Satterfield, Nikko Satterfield, and Ellie Bills; along with other relatives and friends.
