Irene Ann Annette (Boyd) Zimmer

Irene Annette "Ann" Boyd Zimmer, age 86 passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at her home in Idabel, OK. On the cold icy night of January 31, 1936 a baby girl was born to William Bill Boyd and Virginia Storey Boyd of the Redland Community. The weather was so cold that the midwives had doubts whether she would survive, Irene Annette Boyd would make it into the world and was named after those midwives. What a legacy she would leave and an example she would set for her children, family and the County she loved with all of her being.

Ann was a graduate of Haworth High School where she played basketball under the late Frank Storey and was a favorite of Mrs Nina Mowdy, her Home Economics teacher because of her ability to sew and create wonderful home style desserts.     

After high school she enrolled in nursing school in Amarillo, TX graduating at the top of her class. Ann felt nursing was a calling from above and she did it to the best of her ability later coming home to McCurtain County as Director of surgery and eventually serving on the Board of McCurtain Memorial Hospital. She retired after 30 years of 70 hr weeks, it was time to come home and rest. Sometimes she was known to still assist with a surgery if it was for a grandchild or a loved one that needed her.

Ann was a longtime member of the Redland Methodist Church. She and Dr Zimmer loved the annual Harvest Auction and were big supporters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandmother, Emma Storey; a sister Allece Faye Harkrider; brother, Billy Herald Boyd; former in-laws, Edd and Etta Hobbs; and last but not least the love of her life her husband, Dr RE Zimmer whom together formed a dynamic team for the better good and literally travelled the world together.

Ann is survived by her daughters, Linda Ann Peters (Dennis) and Sharon Kay More' (Sanjiv); sons, Gary Benton Hobbs and Billy Jack Hobbs (Dana); grandchildren, Mark Alan Mathews (Taren), Holly Mathews Wright (Brian), Wendi Hobbs Driver (Tim), Billy Joe Hobbs (Lydia), Trey Benton Hobbs, Chelsea Caroline Rheimers (Ben) and Madison More'; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the White Family Chapel with Aubrey Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at the Redland Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Redland Methodist Church.
