James Fitzhugh passed away, Thursday, October 9, 2025 at the home. He was born August 10, 1957 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He was the son of James Earl Fitzhugh, Jr. and Sumie Watanabe Fitzhugh. James was preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves to cherish his memory his fiancé, Mary Jane Whitten of the home and her son, Clark Bridges, Mary Jane’s family: Mother, Jane Whitten; sisters, Bobbie Jean Whitten and Julie Whitten, close friend, Ronnie “Strawberry” Clay, his cousins and many other special friends from high school. Let us not forget his constant and faithful canine friends, Beau and Macey, who near the end never left his side.
James was a military brat whose family moved from base to base, but eventually returned to their home in Arkansas where he graduated from Winthrop High School. After high school he worked as a welder in the field of construction in many states and then returned to work at the Domtar Ashdown Mill for the past 20 years. He enjoyed spending time with his favorite horse, Waco, the cattle, cats and dogs on his farm in Arkansas.
Being an only child, James liked being the center of attention with Mary Jane and her family. He liked attending family dinners and get-togethers and especially Jane’s desserts.
Graveside services are set for Monday, October 13, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Denison Cemetery Pavilion in Idabel.
