Jerry Goad Obituary

Jerry Goad, age 87 left this life for a better one on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at his home in Idabel, OK.  He was born on January 17, 1935 to Myrl and Nettye (Weaver) Goad in Haworth, OK. 

Jerry grew up in Idabel and was a 1953 graduate of Gray High School after which he became a member of the 11th Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, KY during the Korean conflict.  After his discharge he graduated from Gupton-Jones Mortuary School in Dallas, TX and worked in various funeral homes before returning to college in Miami, OK.  It was in Miami that Jerry started his long career with the J.C. Penney company spanning 35 years.  During that period he worked in different positions: store manager, district manager and manager of the largest volume store in the J.C. Penney chain located in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  His last 3 years were in corporate headquarters serving as Vice President and Director of Marketing before retiring and fulfilling his lifetime dream of returning to his hometown of Idabel.

Jerry was a kind and generous man.  He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and helped wherever he was needed, be it helping to groom the church yard, serving as an usher or helping with church audit.  His church family was very important to him.

Jerry was also a member of the Idabel Country Club and served on the board of directors.  He was an avid golfer and played daily with close friends as along a health permitted. He enjoyed watching pro golf and football of any kind on TV as well as old movies and Westerns and knew the dialogue of many of them.  Jerry was limited in his activities but he loved people and often visited the local men's watering hole "Love TIre".

He was proceeded in death by his parents, infant sister Anna Merl and daughter Jeri Anne Fedor.  Left to cherish his memories are daughter and son-in-law Penney and Mike Hoffman, Felton, PA, Son and partner Mark Goad and Chris Tienken, Fairfield, CT.    Surviving grandchildren are Kelsie Fedor and husband Vinny Mangiacopra, Chris Fedor and wife Ashley, Andrew Fedor and wife Cheyenne, Paul Hoffman, Allison Hoffman and Great-grandchildren Owen and Shelby Mangiacopra, Willow, Everly and Hollie Fedor.  He also leaves behind a sister and brother-in-law Gail and Eual Kelly of Norman OK, a niece and nephew and the mother of his children, Shirley Goad of Norwalk, CT.

Barty Shipp, Jerry's special friend and longtime companion is also left to share his memories along with many others.

Memorial Services are going to be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Idabel, OK.  Inurnment will be in Denison Cemetery, Idabel, OK.
