William Jerrel (Jerry) Owens age 76 was born June 30, 1944 to Floyd and Ruby (Jones) Owens. He died June 20, 2021. He was raised in the Idabel area, moving to Texas in his early 20s. Jerry married Sharon Mitchell on May 15, 1965. He was very devoted to his wife and family. He and Sharon lived in Longview TX and Harleton TX.
Jerry was a heavy equipment operator and also raised cattle on his ranch in Harleton. He enjoyed bird hunting, fishing and watching western movies. In his younger days, you could usually find him trying to ride bulls at Coffey’s arena in Garvin on a Sunday afternoon. He was a prankster and got a kick out of scaring his nieces and nephews and even his mother with scary masks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a sister, Ann Wallace and husband, Thurman; a brother, Jesse Owens and wife, Mary; and a brother-in-law, Freddie Garrett.
Jerry leaves to cherish his memory his brother Lawrence Owens and wife Bernice, Idabel, OK; a sister Donna Garrett, Ore City, TX; four nieces, three nephews; several great nieces and nephews and one great-great niece; many friends and other relatives.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at the funeral Home
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 25, 2021 at the White Family Chapel. Interment to follow at the State Line Cemetery in Cerro Gordo, AR.
