Jerry Tidwell Obituary

A celebration in the life of Jerry “Choctaw” Philistine Tidwell, 81 of Enid, OK will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 18th, 2024 at Forest Hill Cemetery, Aubrey Thompson will be officiating the service. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. Services are under the guidance of White Funeral Services. 

Jerry Philistine Tidwell was born December 16, 1942 in Oklahoma to AB Tidwell and Leona (Jessie) Tidwell and passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024 in Enid, OK. He was the second oldest of four siblings and the only boy. Jerry grew up in Broken Bow, Oklahoma and graduated from Broken Bow High School with the class of 1962. In June of 1966 he married Barbara Marie McGowen in Idabel Oklahoma where they lived for 50 years and moved to Enid Oklahoma where they have lived there for 8 years. 

Jerry resided and worked in Idabel for most of his life where he retired from Weyerhaeuser Paper Company. He enjoyed traveling with Bobbie, bowling, collecting Heston belt buckles, old money, candy dispensers, nesting dolls, and he enjoyed playing fast track with his daughter Juree and son in law Justin Brittain. Jerry read his bible daily up until he began losing his eyesight and then he listened to the bible. He was a very loving and kind hearted man.

Though he will be missed by many, he is no longer in pain and the suffering is over.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father AB Tidwell, mother Leona Tidwell, sister Glenda Smith.

He is survived by his wife Barbara “Bobbie” McGowen Tidwell of Enid, daughter Juree Brittain and husband Justin of Enid and daughter Bretta Gillaspy and husband Jim of Enid and grandchildren Bret Gillaspy and wife Ronnie of Enid and Kelcee Algiere and husband Tyler of Deland Florida and five great grandchildren Lillee and Knox Gillaspy and Ryker, Presley and Coral Algiere. Two sisters Patricia Ward of Idabel and Carol Davis and husband Ted of Oklahoma City and numerous nephews and nieces.
