Jim Shemwell

James “Jim” Kit Shemwell, age 81 passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at McCurtain Memorial Hospital in Idabel, OK. He was born on February 28, 1944, the son of Ruff and Ruby (Thompson) Shemwell. On June 19, 1993, Jim married Rose Williams in Idabel, OK.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a handyman who could fix just about anything. He was also an excellent cook who enjoyed cooking for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruff and Ruby Shemwell; brother, Jack Shemwell; son, J.R. Battiest; daughter, Kurtrina James.

Jim leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 32 years, Rose Shemwell of Idabel, OK; daughter, Brenda Taylor; grandchildren, Hayley Oliver, Tyler James, Jeremy James, Cody James, Quentin Lewis, Kyle Battiest, Lindsey Battiest; sister, DeAnna Viegas of Arlington, TX; nine great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, February 16, 2026 at the funeral home.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the White Family Funeral Chapel with Bro. Cole Bryan and Solomon Tonihka officiating. Interment will follow at Canfield Cemetery.
