Jimmy Walter Burks

Jimmy “Bull” Walter Burks, age 86 passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Paris, TX. He was born on October 31, 1937 in Idabel, OK the son of James and Goldie Burks.

Jimmy was an Army veteran, a banker, and a cowboy at heart. He enjoyed his cattle, horses, roping and going to rodeos. When he was raising his children, he had a roping arena just for his family for team roping.  He was the life of the party but was also known for being very blunt, loyal and honest to the bone.

Jimmy was an avid bird hunter in his younger years. He believed in eating good food. He was papa to not just his own but to their friends. He was a lifelong resident of Idabel. County.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Stephanie Burks and his sister, Bertha Mathis.

Jimmy is survived by his sons, Jimmy Burks and (Carolyn), and Stephen Burks; daughter, Dayla Jackman; grandchildren, Porscha Wax (Josh Donaldson), Skyler Wax, Shelby Johnson, Tanner Burks, Jimmy Lee Cockerham (Kami); great-grandchildren, Gracie Cockerham, Skilar Hudson, Brooklyn Stephens, Haidynn Hudson, Charlie Wax, Gatlin Watson, Kylley Freeman, Elijah Bryant, Jr.; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the White Family Funeral Chapel with Jim Smalling officiating. Interment will follow at Canfield Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, March 4, 2024 at the funeral home.
