JoAnn McKinney Obituary


JoAnn Jessie McKinney passed away on Friday, July 24, 2020 in Denison Texas. JoAnn was born January 16, 1950 to Alexander W Jessie and Madeline (Frazier) Jessie in Talihina OK. 

JoAnn was a military child and lived in Idabel OK, Chicago, IL and finally settled in Dallas TX. JoAnn received her education and graduated from Garland High School and went to work for 25 years at Southwestern Bell where she then retired. JoAnn married twice and raised her 6 children. She loved to play sports especially softball and had many stories to share about her catching days, she loved to cook for her family and of course eating was her favorite thing to do. JoAnn was full Native American of the Tribe Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. She was an active elder member of Choctaw Nation district 9. She was a family woman who loved to spend time with her loved ones and loved to crack jokes and make everyone laugh and smile. JoAnn was a proud grandmother of 17 grandkids who she loved dearly. JoAnn was the eldest grandchild of the Frazier family and always loved to share stories about her younger cousins while babysitting them.

JoAnn is survived by her 6 children, Arnold Charles (Charlie) Taylor of Durant, OK, Donya Battiest of Wylie, TX, Brandon Taylor of Durant, OK, Starla Austin of Seagoville, TX, Kami Taylor, of Durant, OK, Chase McKinney of Durant, OK, her sister Darlene Jessie of Durant OK and brother Bruce Jessie of Durant OK.

Joann also will be lovingly remembered by her niece and nephew, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a numerous amount of cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends and a wake service will be held from 7:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at the White Family Chapel in Idabel OK with Rev. Patrick Osage officiating. Interment will follow at the Kulli Tuklo Cemetery.
