Jockey Dale Martin Obituary

Jockey Dale Martin, age 90 passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at his home in the Pleasant Hill Community, OK.  He was born to Perry and Jewell Harris Martin on January 5, 1934 in the Pleasant Hill Community, OK. Jockey Dale was a 1952 graduate of Haworth High School. He married his wife Mary in the Harris Community on January 20, 1956. Jockey Dale was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War Era.  

Jockey Dale spent 39 years in education, teaching and coaching at several schools including Haworth, Tom, Battiest, Wright City, Boswell, Durant, Avery, TX, Red Lick, TX and the Peasant Hill Community. A respected basketball coach and winning many awards, his players loved him and he pushed them for their best. Jockey Dale impacted many young men and women during his career.  

Jockey Dale enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially taking care of his horses. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jockey Dale was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and a lifetime resident of the area.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Jewell Martin; a son, Steve Michael Martin Sr.; a grandson, Steve Michael Martin Jr.; and great-grandsons, Keston McClure and Jaxxon Martin.

Jockey Dale is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Martin of the Pleasant Hill Community, OK; sons, Roger Dale Martin and Heidi of Cocoa Beach, FL and Russell Martin and Marie of Tennessee; a daughter-in-law, Judy Martin of Texarkana, TX; grandchildren, Jim Martin, Daniel Martin, Les Paul Martin, Misty Newsome, Tiffany Sullivan, Suzanne Pruitt, Shane Martin and Ben Martin; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives, friends and former students.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at the funeral home.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at the Haworth First Assembly of God, 106 S Elm St., Haworth, OK 74740 with Pastor Mark Davidson officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Harris Cemetery.
