Joe Landreth Obituary

Joe Eterson Landreth, peacefully departed this life on December 9, 2023, in Idabel, Oklahoma.  He faced several significant illnesses throughout his lifetime, and through it all, he always maintained a deep and unconditional love for his family.

Joe was born in Turkey, Texas, on January 17, 1939, and raised in the Northeast part of Texas.  He was a true adventurer, not one to be confined by conventional norms. Joe embraced a nomadic lifestyle that embodied freedom and simplicity.  Some of his fondest memories include his mother, coon hunting with his father, taking his covered wagon and mules down country roads in Oklahoma and Texas, and spending time with his family.  Joe was a logger by trade, and he worked in many sawmills alongside his father, brothers, and uncles in Northeast Texas and Northern California. He was a collector of pocketknives and guns, and a fan of making a deal through trading.

Joe leaves behind his beloved children: Brian Farrell (Nancy) of Garvin, Oklahoma; Billy Landreth (Christy) of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; and Michelle Knight (Kelly) of Winnsboro, Texas. Grandchildren: Kellen Farrell (Jessica) of Yuba City, California; Kayla Farrell of Garvin, Oklahoma; Patricia Chavez (Carlos) of Willows, California; Troy Farrell of Garvin, Oklahoma; Kirstyn Seward (Matt) of Palm Coast, Florida; Kelsie Kewell (Andrew) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Brennah Solley of Sacramento, California; Chase Landreth; Kaitlin Owens of Willows, California; Jacob Knight (Brie) of Chico, California; Gerald Peters (Allie) of Willows, California; Garrett Peters (Kendall) of Willows, California; and Gillian Peters (Ricky) of Winnsboro, Texas. Great-Grandchildren: Nina, Kellen Jr., and Grace Farrell; Aiden Medina; Camden and Paisley Chavez; Emily, Eden, Everly, and Elaina Seward; Collin and Carsen Kewell; Mia Gonzalez; Evelyn and Elayni Valdez; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  His sister, Topsey (Landreth) Canaday of Justin, Texas; and brother, Emmett Lee Landreth (Diane), of Sumner, Texas.

Joe is preceded in death by his son, Michael Landreth; his parents, Emmett & Ruby (Hughes) Landreth; his brothers Billy, Hank, and Robert Landreth; sister, Nancy (Landreth) Stokes; and his former wives, Wanda Eliason, Exie Murray, and the love of his life, Judy (Samuels) Landreth.

Joe will be laid to rest at the Blakeney Cemetery in Clarksville, Texas, on a date to be determined. As we bid farewell to a man whose spirit roamed freely under the vast skies, we remember him for the unbounded joy he found in life’s simplest pleasures, knowing that his spirit of wanderlust and love for life will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
