John Epperson Lt. Col. RET., age 92 of the Cisco Community passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022 at Dallas, TX. He was born March 30, 1930 not far from his residence now in the Cisco community west of Idabel to John Wesley and Hettie McAfee Epperson. John graduated from Idabel Gray High School in 1948.
John was a veteran of the US Air Force retiring in 1977 as a Lt. Col. He was an auditor in the Air Force and served at several bases during his career.
John moved his family back to Idabel in 1977 and built his home on the land where he was born. He went back to work for the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture as a USDA inspector at the Tysons Plant until retiring again in 1995.
John was very active in his community. He served as president of the McCurtain County RWD #7, past president of the Rotary Club and a member of the Gideon McCurtain County Camp. John was faithful member of the Idabel First Baptist Church where he served as treasurer for 11 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Epperson; a son, John Michael Epperson; parents, John and Hettie Epperson; his sisters, Alice Allen and Marie Arrington; and a nephew, Michael Allen.
John is survived by his daughter, Jayne Epperson White; his granddaughter’s, Crystal White and Ashton Halcomb; a nephew, Gordon Allen; his sister in law, Phyllis Nicholson and husband, Jerry; four step children; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 am on Monday morning prior to the service.
Funeral services with full military honors will be held on Monday, November 14, 2022 at the White Family Chapel in Idabel, OK. Interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.
