Lawrence Dale Owens, age 80 passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Texarkana, TX. He was born on December 3, 1940, in the Shultz community near Idabel, the son of Floyd and Ruby (Jones) Owens.
Lawrence was very devoted to his family and of the Baptist faith. He married the love of his life, Bernice Smith on March 15, 1958 and they made their home in Idabel. Lawrence was a very special person and will be greatly missed. He loved horses and at one time owned about 15. He liked horseback riding and trail rides. He also enjoyed roping and was said to have wore out many ropes that his Daddy Coot bought for him when he was growing up. A big fan of rodeos, he tried bull riding in his younger days. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Watching western movies and going to horse sales were some of his favorite pastimes.
Lawrence started working at a young age helping on a milk truck and later construction work. He then worked his way from sack boy to management at Piggly Wiggly and Jiffy Mart and later retired from the Idabel Street Department after 18 years. He also raised cattle and very much enjoyed it.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ann Wallis and husband Thurman; brothers, Jesse Owens and wife Mary, Jerry Owens and wife Sharon; a brother-in-law, Freddie Garrett; and a special friend, Lenoye Frey
Lawrence leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 63 years, Bernice; children, Deborah Johnson and husband, Jessie, Kathy Chapman and husband, Roger, Larry Owens and wife, Ashley; grandchildren, Jessie L Johnson, Brian Johnson, Brandy Pullium, Kerri Seymour, Lance Owens, Brittney Owens, Jared Owens, Logan Owens, and Darah Owens; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; a sister, Donna Garrett; many other friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the White Family Chapel with Bro. Cole Bryan officiating. Interment will follow at the Redland Cemetery.
