Le Roy Elder, age 89 passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 in Idabel, Oklahoma. He was born September 28, 1932, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the son of William and Esther Elder. Le married the love of his life, Glenda Pollard on August 27, 1971.
Le served in the US Navy from October 1951 through October 1955 on the USS Dixie (AD-14) as a Petty Officer, 3rd Class. Tours included during the Korean War, in the Western Pacific, China and Japan, spending a total of 3 years and 8 months on the USS Dixie. He completed Grade A school between 1953-1954. After Honorable Discharge, he served in the US Naval Reserve until November 1959, with an Honorable Discharge. He was awarded the National Defense Service Metal, Korean Service Metal and United Nations Service Metal,. Upon his return to a civilian status, he worked for Firestone Tire, helping to build the Broken Bow dam. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters while working for Transcon Trucking Company in Oklahoma City, retiring in 1990, with 23 years of service.
Le was an avid deer hunter, and more so, loved night fishing on Broken Bow Lake. He always had a family fish fry at his and Glenda’s cabin in Hochatown on every 4th of July and Labor Day, and then take all the grandkids out in the boat for tubing and skiing.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Paul, Ray and Bob; three sisters, Billie, Dorothy and Pauline and his son, Danny Elder.
Le leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Glenda Elder of Idabel, OK; son, David Elder of Acorn, AR; daughters, Rhonda and Gregory Smith of Garvin, OK and Sharon and Duane Birdsong of Idabel, OK; grandchildren, Kyle Batson and Jacque, Shawn Clampet and Kerri; Lindsay Deason and Shawn, Clay Hattabaugh and Dawn, Cole Hattabaugh and Rachel, Travis Elder and Naomi, Jeremy Elder and Crystal, Heather Closs and Nathan; thirteen great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2022 at the White Family Funeral Chapel in Idabel, OK. Interment will follow at the Pollard Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at the funeral home.
