Lomas (Cowell) Williamson Hess

Lomas Williamson Hess, age 97, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at her home in Garvin, OK. She was born on January 19, 1923 in Garvin, OK, the daughter of Lonnie C Cowell and Nettie Mae Coffman Cowell.

Lomas was a homemaker. She worked at the Clifton Minter Grocery Store for 14 years and as a sales clerk at the S & H Department Store for 15 years. Lomas was a talented cook and gardener and was well known for her pie making, pear preserves and her dill pickles.

Lomas enjoyed helping with the boys cattle especially the young calves. She liked fishing and camping with her husband Edgar and the boys. One time she bought a new life jacket and the first time out with it she fell in the lake and her response was “the life jacket worked fine”.

She was a longtime active member of the Garvin Baptist Church where she taught the Children’s Sunday School Class for several years. Lomas loved her sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren for which she was always sewing and making their little Easter dresses. She also bought them two cute Shetland ponies to ride which they very much enjoyed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Edgar E Williamson and Harold Hess; a great-grandson, Joshua Collett; sisters, Bessie Cowell and Juanita Edwards and her husband, Alvin; a brother, Kenneth Cowell; and a special friend, Bo Wesley.

Lomas is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Sherry Williamson of Valliant, OK and Cecil and Kathryn Williamson of Ardmore, OK; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alvie and Marie Cowell of Garvin, OK, Dean and Nona Cowell of Garvin, OK and Curtis and Pat Cowell of Valliant, OK; sister-in-law, Beverly Cowell of Garvin, OK; 8 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at the First Baptist Church in Valliant, OK with Bro. Mike Mings and Pastor Brent Coffey officiating. Interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2020 at the funeral home.
