Malcolm R. “June” Butler, Jr., age 93, passed away on Sunday, July 16th at his home in Idabel, Oklahoma. June was born June 30, 1930, in Durant, Oklahoma to Malcolm and Lucille Butler.
June graduated from Idabel Gray High School in 1948. After college he attended Kemper Military School and joined the Oklahoma National Guard. He was mobilized to the Korean War from 1950 -1952. Captain Butler spent 18 years with the Oklahoma National Guard.
June married Pasty Earnheart on August 30, 1953. They spent almost 70 years enjoying the life they had built together. June was employed at Butler Grocery Store until he purchased the local True Value Hardware. He was employed by the Oklahoma Soil Conservation Office focusing on flood control areas. He was also a cattle rancher and raised poultry for Tyson.
June loved spending time with his family and friends. He always had a story to tell anybody who would listen. He was very proud of his title “Pops” when he became a grandfather. June enjoyed many types of outdoor activities including golf, bird hunting, fishing, and going to the horseraces. He shared his love of the outdoors with his children. He loved the time he spent coaching his daughter Kim in barrel racing or fishing with his son, David. Another favorite activity was watching his grandchildren participate in sports and school activities. In recent years he spent many mornings playing golf at the Idabel Country Club with the “Senior Crew”. He loved watching Oklahoma football and enjoyed watching Idabel High School sports. He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Idabel.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and a brother James Butler.
June is survived by his wife Patsy, son and daughter-in-law David and Toni Butler of Idabel, OK and daughter and son-in-law Kim Butler and Greg Tucker of Crystal Lake, IL; grandchildren Rachael Woods and Jared, Adam Butler, Matthew Butler, Kaci Tucker, Max Tucker, and Elizabeth Tucker, 7 great-grandchildren, and brother and sister-in-law Roger and Shirley Butler; several nieces nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Idabel at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 22, 2023 with Clark LeForce officiating.
