Maralene Wesner

Maralene Wesner, age 90 of Idabel, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026 in Norman, Oklahoma.  Maralene was born on January 19, 1935 in Valliant, OK to Loyce Woolsey and Evelyene West Woolsey. 

A beloved lifelong educator at the K-12 and college level, Maralene leaves a lasting legacy.  A great number of children are reading today because of the countless hours she spent with her students.  Among her many achievements, Maralene was named Teacher of the Year for the State of Oklahoma in the 1974-1975 school year.  She was also an accomplished author, writing and publishing over 20 books alongside her husband Miles Wesner. 

Outside the classroom, she and Miles served the Tom Baptist Church ministry and the broader Tom Community for 55 years. 

Maralene was preceded in death by her mother and father, a brother Bobby Woolsey and is survived by husband Miles of 73 years, sisters Wanda Burwell and JoAnn Matlock, brother Bill Woolsey, family members Reta Jones, the late Charles Jones, Trent Jones, Steffan Jones, and Natalie Martin, as well as many extended family members and friends.

Services will be held at Tom Baptist Church on Saturday, January 17th at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Tom Cemetery.
