Melton Baker, age 79 passed away on Friday, December 13, 2109 at his home in Idabel, OK. He was born on December 27, 1939 in Battiest, OK, the son of Silas and Ollie Mae Baker.
Melton worked many years at Wright City Lumber Mill and for Julian Lumber Co. in Rattan before retiring. He enjoyed fishing when he could, never a dull moment, if any of us had the chance to spend outside doing chores, chopping wood, working on his truck or ours. He was our teacher and mentor.
Melton was a ball player in his younger years. He sure enjoyed being there for any of us kids that played baseball or rodeo. He was our biggest fan.
He smiled a lot. His friendly easy-going personality was one to have in your life and his longtime friends at the sawmill and Julian's Lumber can attest to that. He sure enjoyed his many years working there.
Melton wasn't a hero known by the world, but he was to his family. He made time for each of his kids and grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Wayne Baker; a grandson, Collin Baker; a son-in-law, Edward “Snake” Woods; his sisters, Ola Mae and Rena; brothers, Tommy, Charlie, Jimmy Dale and his twin Elton.
Melton is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rev. Rosa Baker of Idabel, OK; his daughters, Rachel Baker and Kim Woods both of Corinne, OK and Patty Baker of Idabel, OK; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 16, 2019 at the Goodwater United Methodist Church in Sobol, OK with Rev. Margaret Johnson and Jonathan Hooker officiating. Interment will follow at the Corinne Cemetery.
A wake service will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at the funeral home.
