Patsy Ruth (Wright) Romine

Patsy Ruth Romine - 94, of Idabel, OK passed away in her home on March 5, 2026. She was born May 26, 1931, in Jewell, AR to Fred Arthur “Johnny” and Willie Laird Wright.

Patsy graduated with the Class of 1949 from Foreman High school. At that time, she already knew her husband, Virgil, and that she wanted to be a teacher. She received her degree from Henderson State Teachers College in 1952, and they married in 1953. They were inseparable for 71 years until his passing in 2024. They first lived in Plainville, KS before she accepted a teaching position in Vanoss, OK where Virgil would attend East Central University in nearby Ada. Their only son, Fred Allen, was born in 1961. She obtained a Master’s Degree in Home Economics from the University of Oklahoma in 1970 and became one of the most sought after educators in her field throughout the state. She was nominated for Teacher of the Year and was incessantly recruited by other school administrators. She also taught in Haworth and Byng, OK where Fred attended and graduated respectively. In her career, she affected thousands of children. Countless loved and remembered her their entire lives.

She was a light in her community, especially to her church family. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and often led women’s lessons during Gospel meetings. Music was deeply meaningful to her, and she was a long-standing member of the Foreman Music Club. She is part of a long family legacy of gospel singers and had a beautifully warm alto voice. She will perhaps be remembered best by the loving smile she gave to each and every person she met and which rarely left her face.

Patsy is survived by two grandsons, Tyler and Trey, great-granddaughter, Isla, and a great many close cousins. She was preceded in death by her son, Fred, her husband, Virgil, and her mother and father.

Funeral Services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2026, at the Bypass Church of Christ, Idabel, OK, with Tom Williams officiating. Burial to follow at the Horatio Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the funeral home.
