Phyllis Kay Williams, beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, passed away at the age of 79 on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, 2025, in Idabel, Oklahoma. Mrs. Williams was born in Golden, Oklahoma in 1945, and lived in Golden, Broken Bow and Oklahoma City until she moved to Durant, Oklahoma to attend Southeastern Oklahoma State University. At Southeastern she met the man who would become her husband, James Robert Williams. She and “Jim” Williams married in January of 1965 and remained married until Jim’s death in 2004. Phyllis embraced the life of the Navy wife, moving with her husband and children to Naval assignments in Puerto Rico, Panama, Spain, Illinois and San Diego. Phyllis returned to her roots and moved back to Golden when her husband retired from the Navy in 1986. Phyllis, who held a Batchelor’s degree in Business Administration, worked in various accounting positions over the years. She retired in 2023 after working for Bruce Lowrance, CPA for over 24 years.
Phyllis was a woman who valued and enjoyed hard work. When she wasn’t in the office, she kept busy and kept those around her busy. Her love language was acts of service, and if she loved you, she didn’t mind telling you to “bring your working clothes, I have a job for you” when you told her you were coming to visit. She was a quilter, crafting many quilts, some given to friends and family, and some gifted to the Madill Baptist Home for Children and to their annual auction. She enjoyed yard work and spent many hours mowing and planting flowers and gardens.
Every Christmas she and her daughter made and delivered cookies and candies for all of their friends and neighbors, an annual tradition she loved. She was active at the Golden Baptist Church, and especially loved working in the kitchen feeding the children who attended on Wednesday nights. She was a very generous person who opened her home to so many family members and friends over the years.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Williams; her mother Ruthie Irene Stevens (nee Milligan) and her father Floyd Rollins; her brothers Curtis Ray Watson, James Watson, and Don Rollins: and by her sister, Margie Murdoch.
She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Reid of Broken Bow, OK; son, Robert Williams and daughter-in-law Jean of Golden, Ok; grandchildren, Christopher Williams of Marlow, OK, Cara Williams of Orlando, Florida, and Candace Williams and her husband Matty Davies of Liverpool, England: her sisters Katie Bean of Washburn, MO and Tammy Williams of Valliant, OK; brothers Mike Watson of Tuttle, OK and Tony Watson of Oklahoma City; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Grady and Kat Williams of Lake Charles, LA, Mike and Lynda Williams of Durant, OK; sister-in-law, Phyllis Coker.. She will be missed by her cousins, nieces, nephews, and many other extended family and friends. Her life was a blessing to many.
