Rachel Ramsey Seach

Rachel Ann Ramsey Seach passed awayon Friday, November 8, 2019 at Idabel, OK. She was born April 11, 1944 to Woodrow Wilson Ramsey and Agnes Grace Halfast Ramsey in Muskogee, OK. She moved with her family to Idabel in 1951 where her father opened Ramsey Implements.

Rachel graduated from Idabel Gray High school in 1962. Upon graduation she briefly attended a business college in Tulsa. She decided instead to attend her mother’s alma mater the University of Oklahoma. She joined the Alpha Gamma Deltas, married and lived just off campus until graduation. After graduating she moved with her husband to Massachusetts. She began her teaching profession there and when her husband and both brothers were in Vietnam she returned to Idabel to teach and live with her parents. When they returned home safely she moved back to Massachusetts and continued to teach until she had her daughter Ramsey. After her son William was born, she returned to school attending Simmons University in Boston where she obtained her masters in library science. She graduated in 1987 and returned home to Idabel where she began working at the E.T. Dunlap Center For Higher Learning (later Southeastern) as the head librarian. She worked for 30 years there and delighted in her students and helping others to receive their education.

Rachel was a devout Christian and a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. She worked for the Arts and Humanities Council where she happily participated in bringing arts to our community. She loved children and worked as a child advocate in the McCurtain County court system. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
One of Rachel’s greatest gifts was the ability to encourage others. She had a happy spirit and loved life. She was an avid reader and loved to dance.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Woody and Agnes Ramsey and her brother Joe Ramsey.

Rachel is survived by her son, William Seach; daughter Ramsey Seach Upham and her
husband, Chawn; her brother John Ramsey and his wife, Ida; nephews John H. Ramsey and
son, Alex; Dr. Bradford Ramsey and his wife, April and their sons, Henry and John; Douglas E.
Ramsey and his wife, Summer and their children, Tyler, Aubrey and Andrew; Edgar Ramsey and his wife, Susan and their daughter, Olivia.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at the funeral home.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at the White Family Chapel in Idabel, OK. Interment at Denison Cemetery to follow.
