Ray Thomas Peek, age 106 passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at his home in the Goodwater Community. He was born on December 7, 1914 in Anonna, TX the son of James and Lucy Peek.
If you had the opportunity to ask Ray how he was doing, he would reply “still a kickin”. The first post office and general store in Jadie Community was built across from his home, which is now called Goodwater. Ray enjoyed going to the V.F.W. dances in his younger years.
Ray would walk to Nashville, AR to pick peaches during the harvest season. He cut wood for Red Branch School for $1.00 a rick with a cross cut saw, bagged and delivered it to the school. Later he worked for Dierks/Weyerhaueser as a laborer. All he knew was working hard. Ray always had his mind and many stories to tell. He was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene; two sons, Windle and James; two daughters, Sandra and Margie; one grandson, Jamie and two brothers, Carl and Jim; and one sister, Madalynn
Ray is survived by his two daughters, Gale of the Goodwater Community and Pat of Marshall, TX; sister, Mary of Haworth, OK; and a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at the White Family Chapel in Idabel, OK with Pastor Mark Davidson officiating. The family is encouraging all attending the service wear a face mask due to Covid, but not required.
