Luther Battiest, Sr., age 83 passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at his home in Caddo, OK. He was born on April 13, 1941 in Bethel, OK, the son of Cyrus and Catherine Battiest.
He attended Chilocco Indian School as a young boy where he participated in wrestling, baseball and football. Luther had a passion for music and preaching from a young age. At just 14, he was approached by the Oak Ridge Boys, who sought to recruit him as their bass singer. However, honoring his father’s wishes, he chose to stay close to home. His main goal in life was to preach God’s Word and help guide people to salvation.
He was a devoted martial artist, holding a 2nd-degree black belt in karate and a yellow belt in Taekwondo. Luther was an avid sports fan and a loyal supporter of the Dallas Cowboys, the Oklahoma Sooners and the L.A. Dodgers. He cherished the time spent watching his sons and grandchildren play sports, creating countless memories filled with laughter and pride.
Luther was a proud member of the Army National Guard 47th Infantry and a nine year Staff Sargent.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Viola; parents, Cyrus and Catherine; son, Delvis Battiest; brothers, Presley, Charles, Cyrus, Jr.; sisters, Sally Battiest Crosby and Cindy Battiest Maytubbi.
Luther is survived by his sisters, Loretha Gates of Wright City, OK, Linda Sue Battiest of Broken Bow, OK; brother, Doyce “Sonny” Battiest of San Antonio, TX; sons, Luther Battiest, Jr. of Valliant, OK, Lawrance Battiest and Gloria of Wheelock Academy, Millerton, Randy Battiest and Donya of Wylie, TX, Gary Battiest of Wright City, OK, Daniel Battiest and LaDonna of Wright City, OK; daughter, Debra Watkins and Lee of Caddo, OK; wife, Donna Battiest of Caddo, OK; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; special nieces, Melissa Battiest Miller from San Antonio, TX and Michelle Holt of Garvin, OK; faithful member, Serena and Carol Battiest; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends and church family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Wright City High School Auditorium. Interment will follow at Slater Cemetery, Wright City, OK.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday, October 28, 2024 at the Bible Baptist Church in Wright City, OK.
