Sidney F. Lane, age 91, passed away on March 11, 2026, in Texarkana, Texas. He was born October 14, 1934, in the Pollard Community of southeast Oklahoma to Trinver and Loree Lane. He was preceded in death by a daughter; Donna Lane Parr, son-in-law; Joey Friday, brother; Jerry Lane, and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Galaine Harris Lane; daughters, Susan Lane Friday and Karen Lane Lindsey; sons-in-law, William Lindsey and Doug Parr; seven grandchildren, Joshua Friday (Jessica), Micah Friday (Liz), Morgan Starks (Cody), Austin Lindsey, Tyler Parr (Valerie), Trevor Parr (Madison), and Tristen Heble (Shea); great grandchildren, Aubree, Ava, Shepherd, Adler, Abigail, Hudson, Harrison, and Grayson with more to come; sister-in-law, Carolyn Grigory (Grady); brother-in-law and closest friend, Max Harris; nieces and nephews, Rick, Clay, Mark, Tammy, Reese, Gina, and Scott; four first cousins, Joann Askew, Donnie Pollard, Gail Snider, and Clovis Whittington whom he affectionately called his “sister cousin”.
Sid attended Haworth school and graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1957. He paid his way through college by working in the school cafeteria and spent his summers working at whatever jobs he could find even if that meant hitchhiking to Houston or Dallas. He would spend the summers working in the oilfields of Louisiana and West Texas or pipelining in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Oregon. This continued even after he and Galaine married and had young children. Mr. Lane later earned his master’s degree and Superintendent’s certificate, and his role in education began to change- serving the school districts of Texarkana I.S.D as Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Operations, and as Superintendent of Queen City I.S.D and Glover, Oklahoma schools. He never forgot his former students, especially those in Glover who held a special place in his heart.
Sid and Galaine spent their early retirement days back on his family farm in Oklahoma. While living back in Oklahoma, they were members of Idabel First Baptist Church where Sid was an ordained Deacon and a Sunday School teacher. After moving back to Texarkana to be closer to their children and grandchildren, he and his wife joined Northern Hills Baptist church in Texarkana, Arkansas.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the White Family Funeral Home 3 N.E. 3rd Street, Idabel, Oklahoma with Dr. Roger Copeland officiating. Interment to follow at Pollard cemetery.
