Thomas Allen "Tom" Porton

Thomas Allen “Tom” Porton, age 67 passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at his home in Idabel, OK. He was born on June 21, 1955 in Idabel, OK, the son of Billy Crew and Marie (Kirby) Porton.  

Tom grew up in Idabel where he joined the military before high school graduation in 1973.  He received his diploma in Germany while stationed in Berlin with the Army.  Tom went to welding school following his military service and went on to receive an Associate of Arts in Business Management from Carl Albert.  He got a job working as a bailiff at the courthouse in 1987 then went to work at the County Assessor's office.  Tom was elected County Assessor in 1994 where he served McCurtain County until his retirement in 2006. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Tom is survived by his sons, Bradley Porton of Broken Bow, OK and Robert Porton and Victoria of Norman, OK; granddaughters, Aven Porton of Norman, OK and Isla Porton of Norman, OK; brothers, Larry Porton and Carol of Wheeler, TX and Bill Porton and Dana of Broken Bow, OK; sisters, Donna Lowrimore and George of Idabel, OK; former wife and mother of his children, Brenda Walters of Hochatown, OK; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at White Family Funeral Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at the White Family Funeral Chapel.
