Tuonia Yvonne Samuel Nolen, age 69 passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at her home in Idabel, OK. She was born on April 25, 1952 in Oklahoma City, OK, the daughter of Elvin and Corine Gilbert Samuel.

She spent her early childhood attending Slater School, had a short span at Booker T. Washington, later integrated to Gray High School and graduated in 1971. She worked as a home health worker for many years. Taking care of people is something she loved to do and all that she came in contact with was left with a lasting impression.

Tuonia loved fishing, (everyone loved when she fried a big pan of fish). Grilling was one of her all-time favorites, rain, sleet or snow couldn’t stop her and her sister, Norma from getting out there with a slab of ribs. Tuonia enjoyed working in her puzzle books, quilting and spending time with all her loved ones. She belonged to Spencer Chapel Church where she loved to sing in the choir and ushered there as well.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Corine Samuel, Elvin Samuel Sr.; sister, Mary Ann Cox of Hugo, OK and her husband (married 1983) McCurtis Nolen.

Tuonia is survived by her siblings; Norma Samuel, Elvin Samuel, Jr. (Florence) of Idabel, OK, Melissa Samuel and Kevin Samuel of Oklahoma City, OK and Darrell Samuel of Tulsa, OK. Although she had no biological children of her own she had a hand in raising her nieces and nephews; LaSandra Johnson-Moore (Anthony) of Idabel, OK, DeCarlo Johnson of Idabel, OK, Brad Anderson of Ardmore, OK, Tianna Samuel of Atlanta, GA, Coreunna Johnson of Ashdown, AR, Keylon Johnson of Idabel, OK, Contra Johnson of Idabel, OK, Terrance Hawkins, Jr. of Idabel, OK, Alicia Grayson of Dallas, TX, Tearsney (Johnson) Grayson of Tahlequah, OK also leaving to cherish many great-great-nieces and nephews, great friends that she saw as family like Mrs. Sue Cooper, Louise Noah and many cousins and family members that loved her dearly.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. at Springhill Baptist Church in Idabel, OK with Rev. Allen Gulley officiating. Interment will be at the Williamston Cemetery.
