Wallace Dean Cowell Obituary

Long time Idabel resident, Wallace Dean Cowell passed away November 4, 2024 in Idabel at the age of 90. One of seven children, Dean was born April 5, 1934 in Garvin, Oklahoma to Lonnie and Nettie (Coffman) Cowell.

Dean attended Idabel Gray High School and at the age of 17 he left Idabel to find work in Houston, Texas.  On July 5, 1953, Dean married the love of his life, Nona Faye Sharp in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After they married they lived in Del City and started their family.

Dean was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company (Western Electric/AT&T) and after 33 years he retired. Dean was actively involved with Southwestern Bell Charity Fundraisers.  He later joined the Valliant Masonic Lodge # 301 and continued being involved with charitable work on numerous fundraisers for members of the community. Dean assisted with vision screening for young elementary students at Valliant Public Schools for many years.

Dean was a loving, devoted and hardworking father. Family meant everything to Dean and he looked forward to the annual Cowell Family Reunions. He loved to square dance, hunt, and loved to spend time watching his cattle after they were fed.  Dean was a member of Valliant First Baptist Church.

Waiting for Dean in heaven are:  his beloved wife, Nona, one son, Jimmie Dean Cowell; one brother, Kenneth Cowell; three sisters, Lomas Williamson, Juanita Edwards, Bessie Cowell and two bonus great-grandchildren.

Dean leaves to cherish his life: two sons; Randy and his wife, Liz, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Jayson Cowell of Hinton, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Marc Cowell and his wife, Andrea, of Amber, Oklahoma and Matthew Cowell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren; Erin and her husband, Wyatt, Caylin and her husband, Codie, Caden, and Kyah.; great-great-grandchildren, Leo and Zander; bonus grandchildren; David Paul Nelson, Kim and her husband, Steve Lewis, Julie and her husband, Willie Wortham, and Sandy and her husband, Chris Powers; 19 bonus great-grandchildren; 10 bonus great-great children; two brothers, Alvie and his wife, Marie, of Idabel, Oklahoma and Curtis Cowell and his wife, Pat, of Valliant, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law, Georgia Young of Paris, Texas, Beverley Cowell of Garvin, Oklahoma and Marie Sharp of Wilson, Oklahoma; devoted nieces and nephews, Janet McCoy, Debra Undhjem, Don and Tonya Sharp, Wayne and Sherry Williamson and many other nieces and nephews, family, friends and his special family from Hill Nursing Home.

Family visitation will be at White Funeral Home on Saturday, November 9 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Services are scheduled for Sunday, November 10, 2024, 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Valliant, Oklahoma with Bro. Mike Mings officiating.

Pallbearers are Steve Lewis, Willie Wortham, Chris Powers, Wayne Williamson, Don Sharp, and Clay Cowell

Honorary Pallbearers are Wendall Randle, Jerry McClure, Mac Wray and Ricky Roberts.

Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Forest Grove Community, Oklahoma.  Arrangements are with White Family Funeral Home, Idabel.
